The stories that were never told
Most of the stories in human history were never told.
Some were never told because language did not exist yet.
Some were never told because no one cared to hear them from that person.
Some were never written down, photographed or recorded in any way.
The stories we know, learn and tell are a tiny percentage of all of them.
That belief comes from Morgan Housel, one of the most successful authors of the 21st century.
You might expect a writer who built his career on stories to think the opposite. Stories are his key tool. He uses them to explain lessons, wisdom and complex ideas about finance, money and global economics.
And it works.
His first book, The Psychology of Money, has sold over four million copies.
His second, Same as Ever, is on track to pass a million copies in half the time the first one took.
Still, he believes the stories we know will always be dwarfed by the stories that were never told.
That isn't a reason for him to stop writing. It's the single biggest reason he writes as often, and as well, as he does.
Every story he tells is one more that doesn't get lost.
